Think About It....

Today is a blogworthy day - two posts within an hour of each other. You better eat it up, after this I might not post for awhile. :)

We got a quarterly newsletter with our paychecks today at work and there was a great article I wanted to post some of on this blog. It will make you think twice next time you stay at a hotel whether for business or pleasure. And considering the kind of guests it seemed I ran into ALL last week - the article describes my feelings towards hotel guests this week! Here's an excerpt that gave me a few laughs:

"Hospitality workers have seen it all; house-keepers know how you live, servers know how you eat, front desk know how you treat others, night auditors know your sleeping patters. How's that for creepy? So you there, that wanders around all night in your too-tight PJs, you that doesn't tip your server at all, you that leaves your room a disaster for housekeeping, and yet we still treat you great. It's who and what we are. Just think for a minute, how creepy is it that you can stay here and we can find out that much about you.
Hospitality staff have dealt with some of the rudest and some of the kindest people that are out there. And we do it all (well...almost) with a smile on our face. We love our jobs; we love dealing with different people each day and doing the same job in general but a bit different. To some of us, guest are just a face; to others, they have a name.
So the next time you stay at a hotel, get to know the staff a little bit. Don't check in yapping on your cell phone, then ask where the luggage carts are after I've already pointed them out. Shut your phone off before you even step to the counter and let us make our long spiel. Chat with your server for a bit; don't act high and mighty. Tip them. Each employee you come across, stop to say hey or to give them a smile. I promise you, you'll have a much better stay."

Fall Fun!

This past weekend was a great fall weekend in Pullman. Chris and I had a busy week last week (which was actually nice) and also a fun weekend. We got a lot of resting and activities in.
Friday night we went out to dinner to celebrate a friend's birthday. The place we went was Eleanor's cafe in Uniontown (about a half hour drive from Pullman). It's a saloon basically but a really popular one with great burgers and homemade potato chips! We had a really good time although we had to wait a little over an hour for our dinner as their kitchen is to teeny tiny I think they only have room on their grill for about 2 burgers at a time!Saturday we carved pumpkins as an activity for our apartment complex. Since it's family housing - they host an activity each month. We worked hard on our pumpkins and had a good time. It was so interesting to see all the different families we live with - people from every background I think. I felt like Chris and I were the only ones who were actually originally from America. We didn't get to have much conversation with anyone but it is fun now to recognize others in our complex as we see each other each day.Sunday we skipped church and slept in.........but it was so good for us. We were both pretty tired and needed the extra rest. That night we were invited to a small group which has been a prayer of ours recently - to find one with couples and get involved. It is a fun group with another couple our age and then about 4 other couples all of different age groups and churches in Pullman. What a HUGE blessing. We really had a fun time and are excited to go back next Sunday.

Missing the Mark

This morning as I was trying to wake up before heading off to work - Mondays are always so hard - I saw an interesting interview on the Today show.
Sidenote: For some reason, Chris and I have started to watch the Today show every morning. Sometimes I really don't know why I like it - most of it seems so shallow and for every 5 minute segment they have there are 10 minutes worth of commercials.
Anyways, today was an interesting interview. Apparently, this guy who has a young daughter (kids inspire so much) decided to go on a spiritual quest for a year and follow ALL the rules of the Bible. So he dressed in Bible garb which I don't think was necessarily helpful and set out to keep all of the Ten Commandments. And what do you suppose he discovered? That he couldn't keep them all. He said he lied and coveted more than he ever thought he did. But as he was talking to Matt and joking about everything he did such as not wearing clothes made of blended fabrics, I thought of how much he was missing the mark.
He went on this so-called quest of spirituality in order to somehow discover what to teach his child and missed the mark. What would the Bible be without the New Testament? Of course we cannot follow all of the rules. There are to many and they are impossible to keep every day of our lives. And that is exactly the way it is supposed to be. The rules and commandments are meant to point us to Jesus. This is not only what I hoped this guy would have but something we all need to discover eventually in our lifetimes. We need Jesus as a Savior and the one who died for all our sins - sins that we commit because we continually fall short of what has been laid out for us in life. That is the most important lesson he will ever need to teach his child. I just hope he comes to that realization himself.

Random Fact of the Day

Chris' co-worker is getting married next August and recently purchased her wedding dress.
Where did she purchase it?
E-Bay.
How did she know it would fit?
The girl selling it is about the same size she is.
And if it doesn't fit?
Sell it to someone else.

Do you see anything wrong with this picture?

Pictures

I decided to post a few wedding pictures for those of you who couldn't make it! There is not nearly enough room to post all the pictures I want but these will give you a taste of our day! :)
