Blah!

Wow, I realized it has been a while since i have written on here. I guess I have been busy!

Today I feel kind of blah. My mom - on spring break - came down to go shopping. I was looking forward to going with her but I just wasn't that excited during our shopping trip. I'm not sure why. Maybe the weather (it just started hailing outside!) or maybe just getting used to the fact that I'm alone all morning now that Chris has started working. There were lots of good sales though and I did manage to find one summery shirt that I can wear if it ever warms up outside.

Chris returned form his training trip to Boise last Friday. I think he had a good time and learned more about Syngenta as a whole. For the first few weeks of working here in Pasco, he won't be doing much but helping get the plant ready to get going. There are still little construction projects to be completed but I think he will really enjoy it.

It was nice to have Kristen here staying with me while Chris was gone. I really enjoyed spending time with her and we did go shopping on my days off. I enjoyed her company.

Well, it's about time to brave the hail/rain and head off to work. I am looking forward to this weekend - I have Saturday and Sunday off! Woo-Hoo! That's definitely something to look forward too. Hopefully it will help me overcome my blahness.

Skunk Tails

This past week the hotel dumpster has been invaded by 2, maybe 3, mischievous skunks looking for some yummy leftovers and causing a stink!

So last Friday, traps were set out for the skunks with instructions for us to call if any became trapped so they could be relocated.

Well, apparently, one was caught late Friday night - after the ktichen staff and I had left - and was making quite a bit of noise rattling aroudn in his trap. Mind you the trap was set inside the fence that houses the dumpster and the gate was mostly closed but not shut all the way.

So some concerned hotel guests thought they should investigate the sound of the noise and walked into the dumpster area almost getting sprayed!!!! My co-worker on the night audit said they walked in the front door pretty ticked talking about how they almost got sprayed and it was our fault. WHAT!?!

Lesson Here: Don't investigate suspicious noises, especially in a DUMPSTER! If it worries you that much, tell the hotel. I'm sure they know what's going on. If not, you could end up on the bad side of a skunk.

P.S. We caught one more skunk on Saturday night and so we roped off the dumpster with bright yellow caution tape to deter any curious guests that might try to help!

Waiting

We do a lot of waiting in our lives. I've done a lot of waiting recently. Waiting for Chris to get a job, waiting for him to start working, waiting to see if a better job comes along for me, waiting to see if my schedule can change, waiting, waiting waiting.

My problem has been that I haven't been waiting on the Lord to provide all the things mentioned in the above paragraph. I think that definitely has made the waiting harder because my heart hasn't been feeling encouraged.

But God has been so faithful. He provided Chris with a new job - not Chris' first choice - but after only 3 days of starting his training Chris loves it. He really is going to be working with some great people at a great company that is growing right now and is definitely more stable then St. Michelle has turned out to be. And as Chris starts working our budget will be coming back into play. I can't believe how excited I am to stat budgeting again and getting starting on our Dave plan - paying down debt and saving, saving saving (hopefully for a house)! :)

After yesterday, things might be changing at work too. In fact, I don't even know if I should be blogging about his right now because it could change but my schedule might be getting back to a place where I can have Saturday nights free again. I haven't been to church since Valentine's Day because I've been working every Saturday night and it has been really discouraging. I have desperately missed the fellowship and feel like I don't have time for friends because I'm constantly at work when they're free. I had planned on talking to my boss about seeing if I could possibly get maybe even just 2 Saturday nights off for April - switching working weekends with another co-worker. But what was so encouraging is that before I even approached him about it, he approached me and told me he wanted to get the schedule to a place where I could have Saturday nights off again - and possibly the whole day!!! Wow! Thank you God for being so faithful.

This week has given me so much hope and excitement and I feel so undeserving of it because I've been so unfaithful to God. It just shows me His unfailing love and new mercies each day.

Sensational Sunday

What a great Sunday we had yesterday. I was lucky enough to have it off (a rarity) because of a co-worker leaving on vacation later this week.

Chris is currently on his first day at his new job so yesterday we went shopping to pick him up a couple pairs of khakis. Work dress is business casual for his training and his current pair of khakis was well-worn.

Before shopping we stopped by our friend's house to meet her new cat - Sprinkles. We walked to the new Mexican bakery just behind her house and got some yummy treats to enjoy with coffee and ended up staying a little longer to watch a movie and hang out.

Then it was on to brave the CROWDED mall (when you see that many people shopping and buying stuff, it's hard to believe there's a recession going on). We were successful at finding some khakis on sale at Macy's and used up most all of our leftover wedding gift card - finally! What have we been waiting for?

After shopping, it was on to a nice dinner at the Olive Garden (courtesy of my parents $25 gift card to us for Valentine's Day) Yummy! We even had dessert - zeppoli - Italian doughnuts served with chocolate sauce. The waitress also threw in a raspberry sauce that I thought was even better then the chocolate!

It really was a great day and I'm so thankful I got to spend it with Chris before his first day off work! Now there is going to be some adjusting to do as we see what Chris' new schedule will be like and how much time we will get together.

Refreshment

Last night we FINALLY had some friends over for dinner. I've been wanting to for awhile and it just had not worked out yet but it finally fell into place last night.

I've been starving for fellowship and interaction with friends and so it was so good to talk with Matt & Hailey last night. We are good friends, both having been through FPU together and learning so much from Uncle Dave!

It was good just to connect again and talk and laugh over a great dinner and dessert.

Let's do it again soon! :)

All the Weather You Could Ever.....Want!

I think we experienced all 4 seasons today:

Summer: This morning when I got up it was sunny outside and looked pleasant enough. The temperature might not have justified summer but it was warm enough inside.

Fall: Chris' parents stopped by to take us out to lunch and it was still sunny but as soon as we pulled into our stall at Sonic, the wind started blowing and by the time we finished our meal it was starting to rain.

Winter: Shortly after I got to work, about 3:30pm, it started snowing. And snowing hard. There was a nice little white dusting on the ground and it was pretty stinkin' cold outside!

Spring: About 5PM, it stopped snowing, the sun came out, melted any trace of the snow, and we had a beautiful sunset. It looked like the end of a late spring thunderstorm.

And back to Winter: Whatever traces of snow there were left on my car froze at the bottom of my windshield creating a 1/2 inch thick piece of ice right above my windshield wipers. Great.....

I'm moving to the tropcis!

Chasing Coupons

These past couple of days have been my "weekend" from work. We usually go grocery shopping on my days off - at least until Chris starts working again.

Every since going through Dave Ramsey and Financial Peace University I've been trying to be more diligent about using coupons and buying only what we need while shopping with cash. Because when you have cash, once it's gone, you can't buy anymore!

Usually on Sunday nights at work I get the opportunity to read the Sunday paper - since it's usually so slow. Well, lately I have been scowering the grocery ads to find weekly specials or sales.

So yesterday when we went shopping we ended up going to 5 different stores: Walgreens, Wal-Mart, Fred Meyer, Safeway, and Winco. It was a lot of small trips but in the end with the coupons we used, I think we got a pretty good deal on all the food we bought. We've been shopping about every two weeks or so for staples and buy fresher foods along the way.

It always feels so good when you can get a great deal. I can only hope the stores start to publish more coupons to encourage us shoppers during this downturn in the economy! Prices seem to be going lower already.

Are you Sure?

Apparently, in a survey by BusinessWeek, Portland ranks #1 in a list of the unhappiest cities in the US.

I must say that I disagree. They must have interviewed the wrong people for this survey. How could you not love Portland - the city of bridges, roses, and St. Cupcake. Plus how could you not love a city when you can get a view like this from one of its parks?

Sure with the traffic, sketchy neighborhoods, and long lines at Burgerville, some people would be unhappy but overall I don't see how you could not love this city! I'm sure if they interviewed the right people next time, they would get the different results.

Baby Panda Sneeze

This video has been out for awhile and has been going around Facebook. I just watched it for the first time tonight - so funny! I just had to share it on my blog. It's addicting, I just kept watching it and couldn't stop laughing. Enjoy!
