"I'm not really the jerk I seem to be right now". - Irate guest about his irate behavior.
HA! If you have to tell me you're not really a jerk then maybe you need to think about why I would think you were normally a jerk and quit acting that way!
Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life - in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing. - Phillipians 2:14-16

Tall Ships
This weekend we wanted to visit the tall ships that were sailing through Pasco on part of their adventure to the Pacific Ocean. Unfortunately, we did not make it in time for the free tour as they were getting ready for a sunset sail but we got to stop by and take some pictures before they left. I didn't even realize things like this came to the Tri-Cities! Always got to keep your eyes open for new adventures.

Tribute
Not the sort of tribute you might think it is. I seem to have had the worst week driving this past week. I'm so glad tomorrow is Friday! I think I might just stay home not weekend - the roads aren't safe anymore.
So I decided to write a tribute to all the lovely drivers in the Tri-Cities that obviously got their license in another state where there are no rules!
Thank You to....
1. The truck driver who almost pushed me into oncoming traffic because he decided to not read the sign that said RIGHT TURN ONLY LANE and just thought he could merge with the thru lane whenever he wanted.
2. The tailgater who made me wish there was a puppy in the road to slam on my brakes for so he would have to pay for it. He was so close I could not see his hood - just his windshield and his face.
3. The honk-happy man who was mad at me because I stopped at a blinking yellow light to allow the cross lanes to go. Too bad nobody else wanted to stop - the poor lady probably never made her left turn. I guess if you're in too much of a hurry you don't have to follow the rule that a blinking red/yellow light is treated as a 4-way stop.
So thank you fellow drivers for always keeping me on my toes! And there's your daily dose of sarcasm. Hope you enjoyed.

Weekend Update
Wow - what a great weekend we had. The weather was beautiful and Chris had another Sunday off (now they just need to work on those Saturdays)!
Saturday after church we had fun getting frozen yogurt and ice cream with some friends. There is a fun shop near our house called Sweet Treats and amazingly enough it is open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. One of the only places in the Tri-Cities to be open past 9 or 10 o'clock! The night was beautiful so we decided to sit outside and chat. At one point the owner came out and talked to us for about half and hour. She is a really animated Korean lady and was talking about her family, how she started the shop, and why she wanted to stay open late because no one else was. Then she gave us fudge! It was great. She offered it to us because it was almost to the expiration date so she couldn't sell it in the shop. It was a delicious treat.
Sunday was our productive day. We got busy putting away our winter clothes and moving the summer clothes into the closet and dresser. In the process we threw away one garbage bag of old clothes and shoes and filled another one with clothes to donate. Now we have our summer clothes at the ready with room in the closet for some new purchases perhaps. :)
We also got a new-to-us entertainment center set-up. We purchased it from my manager at work and we think it looks great in our space. It has one long piece for the TV with shelves and drawers and then two large separate towers. I really like that we have one cohesive piece now instead of a mishmash of furniture and this piece is also the perfect size for our living room wall.
Our friend also invited us to try out Indian food for lunch so we ventured to the Indian Palace for their lunch buffet. It wasn't our favorite food but it was fun to try new things and we both LOVED the naan bread. :) We also got invited over to another friends house for dinner which was a perfect ending to the weekend just getting to hang out and fellowship with good friends.
AAhhhh, weekends and summertime. The perfect combination.

Travel Tip #475
In honor of my job working at a hotel, I am going to start offering to you Travel Tips based on real life experiences of guests I encounter.
Travel Tip #475:
If you call down to the front desk using your cell phone because you believe your room phone is not working please listen to what the front desk person says about testing your phone to make sure it works before a replacement is sent up.
Example:
Guest: My phone is not working, there is no dial tone and I need a wake-up call tomorrow.
Me: Are pressing down Line 1 or Line 2 when you pick up the phone to make a call?
Guest: Yes, there is no dial tone, can you bring me a new phone?
Me: Ok, I'll bring you a new phone so you can have your wake-up call. (thinking why doesn't he use his cell phone alarm, but whatever).
So I go to a vacant room and test the phone in there. I press Line 1 and Line 2 and get dial tones. So I unplug that phone and bring it up to the guests room whose phone is not working.
I get up to the room and before I unplug his phone decide to test it to see if I can figure out what is wrong. He says he doesn't know if it's the phone or the line. So I pick up the receiver press Line 1 and wouldn't you know it - A DIAL TONE! Amazing.
He looks at me practically in disbelief and says "How did you get it to do that?" I wanted to laugh at him but thankfully I just explained again how you press Line 1 or Line 2 for the dial tone and went back to my job.
I guess sometimes you're just too tired or too busy to listen when someone talks to you!

Weekend Update
It's Monday again! Our weekend flew by but it was good. Chris had a day off - finally! I was so happy he got Mother's Day off so we could head down to Prosser and spend it with our moms.
Friday night we stayed home and just hung out together after he got off work. We indulged in a pizza and enjoyed our dinner & time together.
Saturday Chris did have to work and I ventured to Wal-Mart to stock up on some things. I got up to the self-checkout line and scanned everything and was getting ready to pay when I could not find my debit card! Whoa, scary moment. Luckily, I had my personal card with me and knew I had enough money in my account so I paid and left because the line was building behind me. Last minute Mother's Day shopping anyone?? :)
Turns out that last week when I used my debit card to get gas at Albertsons I just threw it and my Albertsons card back in my purse and it ended up in a side zippered pocket that I later zipped up! I was SO GLAD to find it after dumping my purse contents out all over the couch when I got home.
Church was great on Saturday night and we headed to Sterlings (a local restaurant) with friends after. It was a fun night.
Sunday we headed to Prosser to spend the day with our moms and other family. We went to church in the morning then ate lunch at a yummy Chinese restaurant. The food was good but the service was a little slow and they were out of chopsticks?!? How does a Chinese restaurant run out of chopsticks...not sure.
We also had beautiful weather to complement our weekend and I'm glad to report - the pool is open! :) Of course, it's still too cold for me to swim but we'll see. I might just brave it.

Vices
As I mentioned in my last post we have had many foreign travelers with us this week at the hotel. Well there are three things that Europeans love. I have aptly re-named them as the three bad habits passed on to Americans. They are:
1. Smoking cigarettes. Right in front of the door. So the smoke wafts in.
2. Drinking alcohol excessively.
3. Listening to music so loud you have to yell to talk over it.
Which explains why my eyes & nose are now burning from the cigarette/alcohol smell and my ears are ringing because I couldn't hear myself think over their music. Much less hear my phone ringing while trying to remember I work at a hotel and not a nightclub.
Boy am I thankful for the next few days off!

International Flair
This week we have about 70 international guests at the hotel here with the Washington Wine Commission to taste wine, tour local wineries & vineyards, and boost our economy by buying plenty of wine! They are from all over the world: Sweden, Holland, Germany, France, the UK, even Japan and Thailand.
Seeing the different cultures has been really fun. They checked in last night and headed right out to dinner but had a reception later on in the evening. It was fun to see the way they interact with each other, dress, and talk. It makes me want to go back to Europe. These are a few of the things I loved while I got to spend 6 weeks there in 2004:
The architecture:

The mountains and landscape:

The people:

The castles:

The history:

Of course we have a lot of that in the USA too (maybe not the castles) but it just seems bigger and better in Europe for some reason. I hope that these guests feel the same way about our little area of the country while they are here this week.

Hi-Ho, Hi-Ho, It's off to work we go....
I apologize for my lack of blogging recently! I have not had much to write about since our life as pretty much been summed up by the following timeline:
Chris: Work All Day
Carla: Work All Night
Chris & Carla: Talk for about 20 minutes before sleeping!
We haven't had much time for social activities outside of church on the weekends. It's been a rough adjustment for me to have Chris going back to work for sure. Don't take it the wrong way though, I am NOT complaining about his job. I am very thankful that he is working again in a job he enjoys and thankful for the extra finances for sure!
Looking ahead, we are excited for this summer and opportunities to see family and friends all over! Here is some tidbits of what we are looking forward to:
June 7th- Ogurkow Wedding -Seattle
June 20th - Ben & Sarah's Wedding - Kennewick
July 4th - Hopefully a visit from my Portland roomie for good fireworks!
August 2nd-6th - Visiting Minnesota and baby Quam (his parents too!)
August 7th - Celebrating my mom's very special birthday!
August 2th - Celebrating my birthday. :)
Plus shorter weekend trips to see family when time provides.
It will be a great summer. Now they've just gotta get that pool open at our complex.
