Update on the Looney Bin Dog

Everyone has been asking about the dog in my last post. It seems the owners tied it up each night all weekend when they got back to the hotel. Several guests and employees took water out to it and then on Sunday morning it was gone so it must have gone back home with it's family.

If I had worked on Saturday morning I probably would have done more to find out who the owners were but I guess my fellow co-workers didn't have that idea.

Next time I'll use Matt's suggestion and train the dog to bark and bother people in the hotel. :) Or just call animal control.

Tales from the Looney Bin

It's been another busy week at work. Lots of business travelers during the week and lots of teams starting tonight and lasting through the weekend.

I have a couple tidbits to share with you. Sometimes I just can't believe people. Seriously!

Exhibit A:

We were pretty busy this afternoon with a big softball tournament + car show in the Tri-Cities this weekend. At one point almost an entire softball team was in the lobby while their parents were checking in. And they had all their stuff. Our GM was helping me out and she had an older couple checking in. Their conversation went like this:
Guest: I can't believe you don't tell your customers that they're going to have to deal with this (referring to the softball team) during their stay.
GM: (jokingly & trying to lighten the mood) Well, how would we tell everyone?
Guest: No, I'm serious! I'm going to have to deal with this noise all weekend.
GM: Well sir, if you have any noise problems please give the front desk a call and we will take care of it.
Guest: Well, you'd be the first hotel that did!
And he walked away - without having any idea who he just talked to.

Exhibit B:

This one is not so much funny as it is unbelievable. About 8PM or so, a lady came to the desk and asked me if I knew there was a dog tied up to one of our tress outside. She said it had no food or water and was just tied up on a lead laying down. WHAT?!?
So I went to investigate and sure enough there he was. Tied to a tree just laying there. In the shade but it was still probably 75 or 80 even in the shade. And he had no water!! So I brought him some water and I don't know if he was older or just tired but he barely got up to sniff the water and just laid back down again.
Question 1: Why would you bring your dog with you on a trip without first checking to see if your hotel accepts pets? (which we don't)
Question 2: Why would you leave your dog outside in the heat with no food or water?
Question 3: Why would you leave your dog alone outside in a strange city without thinking someone would very easily take him or call animal control because he's tied to a tree outside of a hotel?
Hopefully the owners will think better next time.

Wow, I'm ready for the weekend!

A Happy Ending

Last night was kind of crazy at work. We weren't too busy but there was one reservation that was completely crazy. We basically didn't have a reservation for the guy but he had a confirmation number for a reservation of a different guy with the same last name and the same check-in date. Really strange. I don't know if we'll ever figure out what happened.

Well it turns out the guy who had the same last name and actually stayed in the hotel was there for a very special reason. A couple hours after he and his girlfriend checked in, she came back down to the desk to talk to us. I was in the back office and I just heard a snippet of the conversation. I heard her say "Look what happened to me on your balcony..." Oh no! I thought she had hurt herself or something - I just imagined the worst.

So I quickly walked out front to talk to my co-worker and see what was wrong. Well, to my surprise, it turns out that "what happened" to her is that she got engaged!! Her boyfriend proposed on our balcony and she had a beautiful ring that she was showing off to us. It was a pretty sweet story. They were an older couple who had been dating about a year and a half.

I don't think anything like that has every happened at work before. We've had plenty of people stay on their wedding night or to celebrate an anniversary but never had anyone get engaged! It was a happy ending to a crazy night.

Geocaching

A few weeks ago Chris went to a going out of business sale at Joe's, a sporting goods store. He scored a great deal on a hand held GPS unit that had been a display model. After a few unsuccessful attempts he got it to work and so we have been thinking about geocaching.

Some of our friends really love it and we wanted to give it a try. We went to a movie on Sunday and took our GPS unit with us to try out some caching afterward. Our first try didn't work so well because it seemed the person had hid the cache in the middle of tumbleweeds and sand. And we didn't have the clue.

So we moved on to the next one and success! It was hidden about eye level in a tree at the edge of a park near out house. I know Chris was really excited to find it. We wanted to find more but again - they were out in the sagebrush and sand and I was wearing sandals and did not enjoy getting cheat grass in between my toes. Next time I will be better prepared. Hopefully we can make this a regular activity! Here's a picture of our first find:

Our New Friend

Yesterday I arrived home from work and was about to walk in the door when I saw a huge black bug on our Welcome mat. I tried to get a look at it and honestly it looked like a scorpion to me with it's tail tucked under it or something.

I reached across the mat to open the door and I was going to proceed to jump across the Welcome mat and make Chris go out and kill the bug when it jumped! Almost high enough to touch my arm! Well that freaked me out so Chris came outside to see what was wrong.

Turns out it was a cricket. The biggest crickets I have ever seen!! Chris played around with it for awhile making it jump some more and then we came inside.

Well, now we have a new cricket friend. He is living in the bushes in front of our neighbors porch and has greeted me with his loud chirping every night when I get home from work. It makes me feel as though I could look out my window and see grass and trees and a stream instead of apartment buildings.

Thank you cricket friend.

Wedding Season Has Begun...

This past weekend was our first wedding of the summer. It was up in Mukilteo State Park right on the water. It was really pretty and perfect weather. Overcast but not too cold and not too hot. Perfect for an outdoor wedding. I will post some pictures later - I'm too tired from posting pictures on Facebook. It must have taken me an hour. It can be so slow sometimes.

While in Seattle, we stayed with our friend Michelle and her parents. We had a great time with them. Saturday night we headed down to Bellevue Square to eat at the Cheesecake Factory and meet up with our friend Amber and her boyfriend Shane. It was really fun for us all to get together.

After dinner we headed back to Michelle's house and ended up watching "The Curious Case of Benjamen Button". Interesting movie and concept. I thought it was a good movie it was just strange that someone would age backwards and still try to have a normal life.

Now we are gearing up for another week of working and life. But looking forward to our next wedding on June 20th. :)
