A Week Away

Well friends, I will be away from my blog this upcoming week. Of course, I can easily go for a week without blogging but this time I have a good reason.

Chris and I are going on VACATION!

We are so excited to travel to Portland - one of our favorite cities - and then on to Minnesota to visit a dear friend. We'll also be celebrating our 2nd anniversary as well. These 2 years have flown by!

So I will be taking a break from blogging and probably Facebook too -starting on Sunday. Have a great first week of August.

Name Change?

Each time I answer the phone at work I have to go through an extensive greeting ending with telling the person on the other end of the phone my name. And when a room calls I answer the phone giving them my name.

Now we all know that phone lines can have static sometimes or the other person can sound far away, which can lead to a miss-pronunciation of my name.

So far the most common name I get called is Gretta.

WHAT?!?

Not sure how you get Gretta out of Carla but it's happened so often that I have started correcting people instead of just brushing it off to static. I know I talk fast sometimes but really? Really?

Oh for the days when I'll have a job where I can choose whether or not to answer the phone - I'm ready for a break.

Bountiful Summer

Can I just say how much I love the farmer's market? It is the best idea ever - especially if you don't have a garden space or can't grow all of the things you love in your own garden.

I just want to buy up all the fruit I can (because I love the fruit the best) and freeze it, dry it, preserve it, anything to keep it until the gray days of winter make me long for a fresh bite of summer. Because store-bought frozen berries just can't give you the same flavor in my opinion.

I'm experimenting drying some cherries and I have dried some apricots too but those won't last any longer then it takes to pull them off the tray - they are so good! Drying apricots really intensifies the flavor. I love it!

Seeing all the fresh produce makes me really want to buy acreage in the country and have a farm so I could have the goodness all summer long. But that's a lot of work so until I have my own garden I will happily pay the farmers for their hard work to provide good food for us.

Photography

This past weekend (wow, is it Thursday already?) we attended a wedding and reception near Olympia. The reception site was beautiful - at a place called Albee's Garden Parties. I had to take some pictures of all the amazing flowers - and Mt. Rainer. Enjoy.

4th of July Festivities

We had a great 4th of July weekend. My former roommate Erin - drove over from Portland to visit. She was able to stay at the hotel and we had a blast Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday morning we headed to the Farmer's Market for some great deals. Then we enjoyed lunch at Tagaris Winery - it felt like we left the Tri-Cities for the Italian countryside. Although it was warm - we soaked it up as we ate outside -but in the shade!

Saturday night after church we headed to Columbia Park to watch the fireworks. We got a great patch of grass right near the river for an unobstructed view of the fireworks. It was a great show but the music is was set too was a little lame. And right at the good part of the 1812 overture the fireworks show ended. Talk about anti-climatic! But fireworks are fireworks and they were fun to watch as always.

Sunday we headed to Prosser for lunch and a bit of wine tasting before Erin journeyed back to Portland. It was such a nice weekend. It was so fun to have a dear friend here to explore the Tri-Cities with me and we enjoyed catching up on our lives.
