Thursday already....I have a hard time believing there have been 24 hours in each day this week....it has gone by so fast.
I'm not really sure what to blog about! I'm still not sure what my job is going to look like in the next couple of weeks.
Here's what is going on: Myself and the accounting manager expressed interest in the front desk manager position at the hotel. I would be happy if either of us was chosen for the job. She would make a great manager and I know her - she cares about our lives outside of work - very important if you're in charge of scheduling!
She also told me she recommended me for her job if she moves up. I would also be happy with her job. It's not as much pay but it's better hours and interesting - dealing with accounts receivable and accounts payable and that type of thing. I help her out quite a bit currently so I feel like I know her job well.
Chris is loving his job. He came home on Monday after working 11 hours and said he loved every minute of it. That is great news! I feel like his stress levels are much lower now and he is getting better sleep - all after only 1 week on the new job. Thank you Lord for providing this for us!
We are having a great time on the weekends hanging out with family and friends and this weekend is no exception. Looking forward to a great baby shower on Saturday and a BBQ with some friends on Sunday as well as church Saturday night. Whew...no wonder the weekends go by so fast!
Happy almost Friday everyone.
Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life - in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing. - Phillipians 2:14-16

Adjustments
This has been a big week for us. First of all, Chris started his new job on Wednesday. So far, it has been great! He is training right now and will soon be out on his own. He is very excited to have received his new work truck and I'm glad to save a little gas money. :)
My job has had some changes going on this week. First of all, I worked morning shifts for 4 days, minus the weekend, before doing evenings shifts since Wednesday. A new thing for me, it takes a little getting used to!
And on Wednesday when I came in I found out of Front Desk Manager is leaving. He accepted a general manager position at a different hotel and only has about 2 weeks left. That was a surprise!
I have been debating over and over in my head whether or not I should apply for his job. There are definitely pros and cons.
Pros: better work schedule (days), more pay, desk space, more responsibility, and more challenges.
Cons: salary (read=lots of hours, no overtime), challenging guests, different schedule (could include a Saturday or Sunday and later nights), being responsible for covering any front desk shift if a front desk agent can't make it!
There are a lot of things to thing about and I definitely have some questions I want to ask before I decide if I want to apply. It will also be hard to have someone different in that job - right now my manager has an understanding with most everyone about what hours they want to work and he does a great job with scheduling. I am worried about someone being in that job who doesn't care quite as much and I'm afraid I'll end up with a bad schedule again (working weekends mainly). But we'll see what happens.
All in all, I need to decide how much career work I really want to do in the next couple of years before we start a family. Not an easy decision!

MS Walk 2010
Saturday Chris and I participated in the 2010 MS Walk in Columbia Park. We walked on team J-Lu, my friend Hailey's office team. It was fun to walk with friends although it ended up being pretty windy and chilly on the first half of the walk. We got pretty chilled!!
But the sun was shining and it warmed up later in the day. And I won a prize in the raffle - a free DQ Ice Cream cake! :) We are keeping our record up. Last year Matt won a git certificate to Carmine's Italian restaurant so next year it will be Hailey's turn to win a prize and the year after that, Chris.
Here are the pictures from the day:
Hailey, Matt, Chris, and Carla ready to walk so we can warm up.

Almost back to the finish.

Sporting our orange!

Even Tinkerbell supported the MS Walk even if she wasn't allowed to come.

Spring Reading
I recently discovered the library in Richland! I had been wanting to go in for a while to get my library card and I finally did it. It's so nice to find new books to live without spending money for them - of course I might go out and buy the ones I really like!
Here are the latest three I just finished reading:
"A Big Little Life" by Dean Koontz:
What a great book! It's the story of Trixie a dog that Dean and his wife received from Canine Companions for Independence because she had to retire early due to elbow surgery. She turns into a wonderful dog for them and shows how animals really affect our lives. I finished the last couple chapters at work and had to try hard not to cry because of course the dog doesn't live forever. But overall it was a great story and a great read for any dog lover.
"Maid Marian: by Elsa Watson:
Elsa Watson lives in Seattle and this is a great novel that is a retelling of the story of Robin Hood and Maid Marian. In this story, Maid Marian parents have died and the Queen of England marries her off to a young boy who dies mysteriously. The boys mother then tries to claim Marian's family lands. Maid Marian goes on a quest to gain back her lands with the help of Robin Hood and along the way they fall in love.
"Leota's Garden" by Francine Rivers:
There is not one book form Francine Rivers I have read that I did not absolutely love. She has such a way of telling stories that captivate me and I cannot stop reading. This book tells of how God brings reconciliation to a family who has suffered for many years without ever knowing the truth about their relationships. It was heart wrenching but so good to read and know that we need God to reveal truth in our lives and relationships every day.

Easter
We had a great Easter at the in-laws house in Prosser. My parents and grandma also came and we had the dog so it was a real party!
I made 12 layer jello inspired by my cousin Laura who provided the recipe. It was fun but time-consuming. It took about 4 hours total on Saturday waiting for all the layers to set and pouring new ones. Some of the layers were pretty thin too. I think next time I might try making it in an 8x8 pan instead of 9x13. Chris said it was like eating skittles!
I've been taking a lot of flower pictures lately with all the blooms happening. It's been fun to try out the new camera - I especially enjoy using the macro setting to get up close clear shots. I'm hoping to maybe produce some notecards from some of these pictures as well as the ones I took of the blossoming tree outside our apartment.

Overall a great Easter although we couldn't go outside without getting windblown so excuse our messy hair! The wind WILL NOT let up around here. It's getting really old. I want spring back.

Big News!
We have big news at our house this week: Chris has a new job!!! Yes, that's right - no more 15-20 hour days 5-6 days a week with Syngenta, no more stuck inside a warehouse packing seeds, no more having a boss who doesn't invest in his emplyees. In two weeks, Chris will be done with Syngenta and ready to start working for a company called Professional Ag Services.
Professional Ag Services is a local company based out of Pasco that provides Irrigation Water Management/Scientific Irrigation Scheduling and Aerial Infrared & color photography to local growers and farmers in the Columbia Basin. Basically, this is right up Chris' alley and what he studied to do in school.
They have been in business since 1987 and Chris told me that the employee who is the newest (besides him) has worked there 10 years. I think this speaks a lot about their credibility and desire to retain employees with good agricultural experience.
He is so excited about this opportunity and I am excited to see him get to use his degree and have the freedom to try new things. He will still work long hours and probably Saturdays during the summer because that is the nature of agriculture but during the winter he will have a long break and still get paid for a 40 hour work week. Basically, the opposite schedule of a teacher! :)
Thank you for your prayers for him as he has searched and waited patiently to find a new job and opportunity.
A couple other prayer requests for the end of this week:
*My dad had an appointment with an eye specialist yesterday because he has a detached retina that occurred sometime right before Christmas. He will have cataract surgery on his eye today and retina surgery on April 12th. Pray for a full recovery and full vision to be restored.
*I got an e-mail from my half-sister Marie that her maternal grandmother passed away this morning. This would be my dad's former mother-in-law from his first marriage. She was in her 90s and in declining health but I know it will still be hard for her family. My parents have also maintained a relationship with her and her husband over the years and she was a neat lady. Pray for peace for that family during this time.
