Top Ten

Here are the top ten reasons I have not blogged this week:

10. We had a FULL weekend and I am still catching up on sleep. 4 hours of sleep a night just does not cut it.
9. I am in a fall cleaning - similar to spring cleaning - mode. Read = scrubbing counters and deep cleaning the burner pans on our oven.
8. CPR training at work. That added an extra 4 hours to my day today but the teacher was quite entertaining.
7. Tinkerbell. I just can't blog when she wants to go outside in the morning.
6. Facebook. Seems most times I just get online to check that quickly and don't take the time for other things like blogging.
5. Editing pictures. With my class reunion and hot air balloon rally this last weekend I have lots of pictures to go through before I post them.
4. Women's Retreat. Our church is coming down to the last couple of weeks before our 1st annual women's retreat. Lots of planning still to do and I'm working with a friend on a prayer journey/walk. We're so excited to see how it turns out.
3. Chris. We've been trying to read through Sacred Marriage by Gary Thomas again and we are carving out time to just spend together as well during the week.
2. Friends. This Friday we are having a game night/taco bar with some close friends at our house. So that equals lots of preparation to get both the food & our house ready for company.
1. The weather! It's so beautiful outside who wants to stay in. We need to soak in this Indian summer before the cold hits!

10 Years

Wow it's been awhile since I've blogged! We have been busy being gone and then this last weekend we stayed home and caught up on laundry, cleaning, and organizing. It felt really good.

And yet again this weekend will be a busy one. We are headed to Prosser to spend the weekend. Yes it's only a half hour away but there will be so much going on we figure it would be easier just to stay there instead of going back & forth.

First activity: The Great Prosser Balloon Rally. We will get up early Saturday & possibly Sunday morning too and head to the airport to watch the hot air balloons inflate and take off. I hope the weather is good - clear skies & not much wind. I'm definitely taking the camera and hope to get some great shots. There are also craft vendors downtown and lots of other activities to partake in. A lot of my family will be in town as well an so we are excited to spend time with them.

Second activity: My 10 year class reunion. I can't believe it's been ten years. Friday night we'll go to the football game and Saturday evening is the dinner and program. I'm looking forward to see who comes and catch up with some old friends I haven't seen in quite a few years - well almost 10 years! I'm hoping it will be a good time of catching up and remembering what high school was like.

What are your favorite high school memories?

An Important Lesson

Today I learned a good lesson from a hotel guest. He was so humble and ready to set a good example for all of those following him.

What happened is that he was here for a conference for law enforcement officers the past couple of days at the hotel. Everyone checked out this morning and it was very busy. He was helping others check out and then left the hotel and (luckily for him) hung around town to eat lunch and let his wife go shopping.

Well a few hours later the housekeeper came down from his room with his badge and weapon!! OOPS! That's not a good thing to leave behind. We immediately tried to call his cell phone but his mailbox was full so we called the people in charge of the conference and they were able to get ahold of him. He came by about a hour later to pick it up since he hadn't started the drive home yet.

Of course he will never be able to live this down. It's a very serious thing to leave your weapon behind - you never know who could find it. I was so impressed with his attitude though. He said he had just talked with one of his officers about doing the exact same thing and if his officer couldn't get away with it neither could he. So when he returned back to his office he was going to write himself up.

Most people that I see come through the hotel would have just blown it off and found themselves lucky they were able to get it back before they got home. No need to tell anyone, just brush it under the rug and forget about it. So what impressed me was that he was willing to take responsibility and do the right thing - even if it meant consequences that weren't so great.

Of course, we should all do that but sometimes we don't want to deal with the consequences so we wiggle our way our of the situation or pass the blame onto someone else. I was glad to witness someone with such integrity today.

Long Weekend: Seattle

Our second day of our long weekend we headed off to Seattle to enjoy friends, family, and a Seattle Mariner's baseball game. Neither of us had been to a game in a few years so we were very excited to go!

The drive was really good and we met up with our friend Michelle in downtown Seattle before the game. She was my roommate at WSU. It was so good to see her and catch up for a few minutes while walking around downtown dodging tourists! Every shop was so crowded and it was hard to find a place to just sit down but we had fun.

After hanging out with Michelle we headed over to the game. Chris found a great deal from a website called StubHub so we sat just between homeplate and the dugout. Normally very expensive tickets became quite affordable! The Mariner's lost but it was still a good game. I love going to live sporting events. Football, baseball, and hockey are all so much fun with a crowd of people around you cheering together for your team. That being said, I can't wait for the WSU football game this weekend.

Sunday we spent the morning at IKEA! This was very fun. We purchased a new coffee table to match our side tables bought from our neighbors in Pullman and we also got an area rug for our living room. It is so nice to not have so much floor space to sweep and to have a cozy rug on cold mornings. It really makes our apartment feel cozier.

After shopping we met my cousin and family for lunch before heading home. It was great to see them and we got to meet her new twin baby girls. They were so small (born August 12th) and really adorable. It was good to see her boys too - they are always entertaining.
I didn't realize until I uploaded this pictures that you can't see the girls' faces. You'll just have to take my word for it. They are cute!

Finally it was time to head home after a stop to get Tinkerbell from my parents and then all we did was drop her off at home and head out to a small group BBQ. We were tired but it was fun to hang out with friends. Chris went swimming, we sat around a campfire (well a fire pit) and then played Rockband.

Overall, it was a great weekend. We both really needed it to feel refreshed and ready for fall.

Long Weekend: Day 1

We both really enjoyed our long Labor Day weekend. Taking Friday off was a great idea. We went kayaking!

It was a program set up by the Cities of Richland and Pasco. You meet at Columbia Point Park and get shuttled up to Leslie Groves Park where the kayaks are waiting. We put in the river and kayaked back to Columbia Point.

The water was so clear when we put in you could see all the way to the bottom. We saw birds, some fish jumping, and plenty of boaters along our way. The boats were fun as you could ride the wakes in the kayaks.

It took us about an hour and a half to get back to our starting point. My shoulders were sore by the end but it was so much fun I wanted to keep going. It was also a beautiful day and we really enjoyed the sun while out on the water. The kayaks were ones that you sit on top of instead of inside so we could stick our feet over the edge into the water if we got too hot. What fun!

After finishing up and loading the kayaks back up in the truck we enjoyed a delicious dinner at Anthony's which was included with the kayaking! It was a great dinner and a fun way to cap off our day.

I think they are planning to do this event again next summer so we're going to try and get a group of friends together to sign up for one day so we can kayak together. Let me know if you're interested.

Next: Days 2 & 3...

Happy Thursday/Friday

I say Thursday/Friday because today is my Friday at work. I took tomorrow off so Chris and I could both have 4 day weekends! WOOT!

We are looking forward to a lot this weekend but we will also relax as well. Tomorrow we are so excited about our afternoon activity - kayaking! We found a great deal online where you sign up through the City of Pasco's recreation department. We will be shuttled up to Leslie Groves Park along the Columbia River and kayak down to Columbia Point Park. After kayaking we will eat at Anthony's - which was included in the price of kayaking. I am very excited about eating some fresh seafood - Chris will have a steak.

Saturday we are heading over to Seattle to catch a Mariner's game. We haven't been in a couple of years and Chris is finding some good deals online for tickets. I think it will be a lot of fun and hopefully we'll get to see some friends while we're there as well.

We'll just spend one night in Seattle so that we can be back in Prosser on Labor Day. We have some of Chris' family coming into town and we are looking forward to spending time with them. It's such a blessing for us both to have weekends off and be able to travel and see people. We can't wait!

Have a great Labor Day weekend and remember to relax and soak it all in.
