Our New Friend

Yesterday I arrived home from work and was about to walk in the door when I saw a huge black bug on our Welcome mat. I tried to get a look at it and honestly it looked like a scorpion to me with it's tail tucked under it or something.

I reached across the mat to open the door and I was going to proceed to jump across the Welcome mat and make Chris go out and kill the bug when it jumped! Almost high enough to touch my arm! Well that freaked me out so Chris came outside to see what was wrong.

Turns out it was a cricket. The biggest crickets I have ever seen!! Chris played around with it for awhile making it jump some more and then we came inside.

Well, now we have a new cricket friend. He is living in the bushes in front of our neighbors porch and has greeted me with his loud chirping every night when I get home from work. It makes me feel as though I could look out my window and see grass and trees and a stream instead of apartment buildings.

Thank you cricket friend.

Crickets always sound like summer to me too.

yikes! i always tell my husband that when they stay in their environment that is one thing, but when bugs come and bother me... that's another.
