Since taking Financial Peace University and since being on a very limited budget every month with Chris not working, we are both enjoying looking for good deals and ways to save ever time we can.
Well a few months ago, I took my car in to get the 60K inspection. I knew some things needed to be done but they gave me a long list and a high price tag!
For instance they wanted me to pay them about $40 to give me new wiper blades!! WHAT?!? We went to Wal-Mart and bought wiper blades and put them on ourselves for about $20.
So yesterday was the spark plug adventure. We had a Chilton's repair manual for my car and so Chris got all the information he needed to about the proper size of the spark plugs and tools. He went shopping and was able to get all the parts and supplies for about $43 total. Then it took him about 40 minutes total to change out all the spark plugs. The first one had a boot that was hard to get off but easily solved by driving the car around for a bit and warming it up.
And to think the mechanic wanted us to pay $39 just for the spark plugs and about $70 for labor. Never again! We are DIYers now!!

Good for you! I wish we could have done it ourselves, but it's hard to do with 20 degree weather and a car that won't start. :)
