What is Chistmas All About...

A Charlie Brown Christmas is one of my favorite little Christmas movies. I love the simple approach of it and how Charlie Brown is so concerned that everyone is worried about the commercial side of Christmas - writing Santa, winning light contests, having a perfect tree, etc - these things are not bad but sometimes we get too caught up in them.

This year my answer to what Christmas is all about comes from the first book we bought for baby:

"They caught their breath. Then quietly, they tiptoed inside. They knelt on the dirt floor. They had heard about this Promised Child and now he was here. Heaven's Son. The Maker of the Stars. A baby sleeping in his mother's arms. This baby would be like that bright star shining in the sky that night. A Light to light up the whole world. Chasing away darkness. Helping people to see. And the darker the night got, the brighter the star would shine." - The Jesus Storybook Bible

We always associate Christmas with light - lights around our house, lights on our tree, a bright star or angel on the top of our tree, candlelight services, luminaries, and more. And more then ever these days we need the bright light of Jesus to pierce the darkness of our world.

God help us be a bright light for Christ this Christmas season and all year long.

Merry Christmas to you and your family!
