This past Friday was such an unusual day in Pullman and at work. Sometimes I think we live in the twilight zone of weather in little old Pullman.
On Friday, I woke up to snow and ice on my car. There was not much accumulation, just a little more then a dusting really, but it was really cold.
When I got to work the first thing I did was help a guest jumpstart his truck because I was the only employee at work with jumper cables.
Then later in the day we got a call from a guest who was a sheriff and left his loaded gun and badge in his room. So we had to go retrieve that and store it in our safe until he could drive back (he was already halfway home) and get it! Poor guy.
Later, while I was on lunch, I guess a lady called to see if we could go see if she had left two bottles of breast milk in the fridge in her room. Well, they were there and so we stored them in our fridge so she could come back and get them. No use letting that go to waste!
Finally, just before Chris and I got ready to leave for Prosser, he said it was snowing again! When I looked out the window, sure enough, it was snowing..........and the sun was shining! On the second day of spring!
What a crazy town we live in.
Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life - in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing. - Phillipians 2:14-16

March Maddness
I would not call myself a huge sports fan but I do enjoy watching my high school team or the Mariners in person and on TV. However, I was never much of a basketball fan. I always thought it was kind of boring. But being married, with Chris enjoying so many sports, I have caugh the March Madness fever.
This year we have had the opportunity to go to most of the Cougar home basketball games and it's always fun to watch your home team in person. But today as the divisions gear up for "Selection Sunday", it's been fun to watch the college teams around the country battle it out for the chance at their division title and a better standing in the NCAA tourney for the National Title.
It's so exciting to see how hard these guys play and how may close games there have been today. This morning we saw UNC beat Virginia Tech in the final seconds of the game when Virginia Tech thought they had an upset in the bag. And now, we are rooting hard for Standford to beat UCLA and win the Pac-10 title because we hate Kevin Love.
Of course watching all the other basketball teams play, we are ultimately hoping that WSU will get a place in the NCAA tournament and another shot to prove they are a team to be reckoned with.
GO COUGS!

Speech Dyslexia
We all do it. Transpose words or letters in our everyday speech. Here are some funny ones, said by myself and Chris.
Me: (describing hotel amenities to a guest checking in) Every night at 8 we have freshed baked mookies and cilk.
Chris: (looking for headphones) I thought I had a head of setphones in this drawer.
Just thought you'd like a Saturday laugh!

Anger Management
I came into contact with the absolute angriest hotel guest I had ever encountered today. He was so angry that he just wanted to vent and yell, not necessarily even be helped.
Quick synopsis: We had a three rooms reserved under his name. Two rooms checked in the day before him and someone accidentally changed the name on his reservation to his friend's name. First mistake. So last night this guy comes to check in pretty late and the night auditor says, "I'm sorry, we don't have your name in our system." So the guy apparently started yelling and cussing and left to find another place to stay.
This morning he comes back demanding to speak to the manager. I asked him who he was so I could let the manager know. All he did was literally throw his reservation confirmation e-mail at me and said, "It's about this reservation." I immediately knew who he was. Well, the manager came out and told him it was our fault but by this time I think he was beyond help.
He yelled, "Give me that paper, this is going straight to corporate, I'm sick of this!" and left!
WHOA! Time out!
Understandably this guys was upset and had a right to be. We thought we didn't have his room (why he didn't give his confirmation number to the night auditor, I don't know) and he had no place to stay. But why ask for the manager if all you want to do is threaten and yell. People seem to have the impression that excessive anger will get you better treatment. And it usually will get you what you want but at a price. If this guy had calmly last night prodded a little more, we might have found his room and the whole situation could have been resolved. But he chose to blow up instead and earn himself a name around our hotel.
Unfortunately he's going to go into history as a "bad guest". And it wasn't even his fault!
